Where is Inverness?

The Neighborhood

Inverness was initially built by the Bolton Company on or about 1936. The first section to be built was the houses on Bayside Dr., beginning with the unit block, then later, Winona Ave, Midway Ave, Seabright Ave, & Beach Dr. I don't know the order, but I know the 500 block of Bayside Drive wasn’t completed until 1942. We include the section of Wise Ave that falls within the neighborhood borders.

The next section of Inverness to be built was across Chink Creek comprising the houses on Delmar Ave, Avalon Ave, Del Rio Rd, Mavista Ave and their section of Wise Ave. This neighborhood was not built by the Bolton Co, but someone else.

Both sections made up the neighborhood of Inverness, but over time the first section became known as Old Inverness (an unofficial nickname) while the second section became known as New Inverness (also an unofficial nickname).

There is also West Inverness which begins with Kavanagh Rd and encompasses their many row houses. I don’t know much about that neighborhood except that they are/were the West Inverness Community Association & have always been a separate community from Inverness.

The Civic League of Inverness was originally created in 1942 to serve both sections of “Inverness”, hence, our name.
